Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again

Here We Go Again! As someone who watched this movie like 100 times throughout my life I was very underwhelmed. The songs were okay, the plot was ehh at best.
If had not seen the first movie I would have thought it was a great movie (like my mom did) but I have, and the story lines were just so off when it came to Donna and her summer of lovers. Like whoever write the script literally had a story written (and sung about) in the first movie and it’s like they threw it out the window. Did they not think that the true fans would not notice? This storyline makes it easier to distinguish that it was either between Sam or Harry or depending what month the baby is born, if it was Bill since he was gone for three weeks.
The trailer made it seem that we would find out about the baby in the beginning and then we would spend the movie seeing people tell Sofie about her mother but there was really no reason to see young Donna. I know the writers were looking to make parallels between mom and daughters story, but I think that they fell short.
I also did not like most of the music they picked. I really like Waterloo and Angel Eyes and Mamma Mia, but other than that the songs just fell short for me. I absolutely hated the remake of Dancing Queen; it wasn’t fun or playful, and it was really slow, and it looks like they did the song just to do it. For some reason the songs also did not sound good in the theaters, the music was louder that the actual singing and it made it hard to hear what they were singing about. Cher’s song was absolutely not needed and totally pointless to the story line and really random. The last songs of the movie though did absolutely make me ball my eyes out. It was so sad!
The best thing about this movie was Lily James as young Donna. She did a great job bringing her character to life. In fact, all of the young counterpart actors did a great job with their portrayals. It was very entertaining to watch
Now this was not the best movie I have ever seen it was okay if you can forget all about the first movie. It was still a great summer movie and I will still watch it when it comes to DVD/Netflix or whatever platform.

Questions I still have:
  • Didn’t Sofie’s step father have children, like why didn’t we ever hear about them again? Did he just ditch them to move to Greece?
  • What happened to Bill’s boat?
  • How much time has actually passed between the first and second movie?
  • What did Donna die from?
  • Are Sky and Sofie married?
  • Why didn’t Sofie’s two best friends from the first movie make an appearance?
  • Bill thought that his grandmother Sofia (who Sofie might be named after) gave money to “family”; I need more information on this plot line?
  • Where did all the money used for the new hotel come from? Life insurance? Did everyone chip in?
