How to Survive Sorority Recruitment!

Recruitment season is over here at Texas Tech and I thought it would be helpful if I shared some tips that my sisters and I have thought of. Recruitment is a tough process. It is hard on your body and your soul. I hope these tips will help you to make the best of your recruitment process!

  • Have an open mind-Go in to recruitment with no judgements. Do not listen to what anyone has to say about the chapters you will see. Because at the end of the day, you will be in the chapter you belong in. you do not want to take a chapter option away from yourself just because you heard rumors. You do not want to end up in a chapter because it is the “best” and not feel at home there
  • Trust the Process-You will hear this a lot, but it really is the best advice. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and the universe has a way of opening and shutting doors when the time is right. So, if you happen to get cut from a house that you loved just know that your house is out there.
  • Bring a blanket-I don’t know if this applies to all campuses, but at our Greek Circle you do a lot of sitting between parties and no one wants to sit directly on the grass. So, bring a blanket or a towel and you will suddenly be everyone’s best friend!
  • Hand Sanitizer, EmergenC, & Pain Reliver-The holy trinity of health products you should carry at all times! Recruitment is an incubator of germs and you do not want to get sick during the process. Sanitize your hands before and after each party! Drink EmergenC! I recommend mixing it with orange juice, Powerade, apple juice, or lemonade. Trust me just mixing it with water will disgust you! Always carry your choice of pain reliver, walking all day will take a toll on you, your shoes will take a toll on you, other people will take a toll on you!
  • WATER!- Drink up! it will be very hot in August and you do not want to pass out on a sorority lawn between parties! Water is your best friend!
  • Weather Related Gear-I was definitely surprised that it rains in Lubbock, and when it rains it pours and floods. So, I had to go out at buy rain boots, a rain coat, and an umbrella! (look for links on my most used college items later this week!)
  • Bring a pair of comfortable shoes to change into-Do not get stuck walking around in your heels or wedges all day if you don’t have to. All bringing an extra pair of shoes saving you from running to your next party in your heels! The days will be draining so if bringing your favorite pair of shoes to change in to at the end of the day perks you up a bit, do it!
  • Dress for women!- Recruitment is a by women, for women process. Dress comfortably! Dress confidently. Try not to dress like you are going to a club!
