Kings Cage Review!

All Will Burn!

This has to be my favorite book so far in the series. Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard is the third book in the Red Queen quartet. This book is packed with romance, assassination attempts, new allies, and new enemies.
So much happens throughout the course of this book. For most of the book Mare is a prisoner of Maven. We get to see just how well Maven is running the country without the scheming of his mother.  While I know I am supposed to hate Maven for all the horrible things he has done like; having Mare tortured, keeping Mare captive, and forcing her to say things to further his own agenda (and that’s just in this book). But I do feel sorry for Maven his mother was truly evil and to mess with a toddler’s mind, that really messes up the minds development and Maven was basically emotionally abused as a child. The fact that he no longer feels any emotion towards his father or brother is really sad and that he doesn’t know what is really real in his mind just hurts my heart. Victoria Aveyard really knows how to make a sympathetic villain.
I was right that Farley was pregnant and of course there are more people to meet on the Scarlet Guard front. I wonder if we will ever meet them all?  I am a little sick of seeing new people in charge every time we see a point of view from over here. Also, not surprised that they cannot all agree on what to do. At least Cal had Nanny sent in to see if she could save Mare when the other were willing to let her try to escape by herself, condemn their organization and abandon anything Mare knew about.
I think if Maven was not such an evil person he would make a great ruler. If the side the reds saw on the coronation was the real Maven, the kingdom would be in good hands! He knows how to get the reds to agree with him, to get everyone to fear who he fears, and he seems compassionate. But he’s not and it’s all just a show. I’m not sure why I was surprised that the war that has been going since forever is a ploy to control population in reds, but it is a genius, well thought out idea to have lasted this long. And it is only ending so that Maven will have more allies in his war.
My absolute favorite character in this book is Evangeline! She knows that Maven is full of it and is ready to stir up drama. While she would love to have a crown she definitely doesn’t want to marry the crazy brother plus she’s in love with someone else. So glad that she is the one to free Mare and that she got to experience a title and happiness with Elane for a short while until Cal’s scheming grandmas had to ruin it by promising a union between them.
The last battle scene was epic. There was so much going on and so many different people working together. Victoria really outdid herself in her writing here. Towards the middle of the battle I did not think our side would win as it was getting really close but then we learn Cal’s grandmother’s reinforcements get there, the Lakelander king dies and they win the battle!
Once Cal and Mare reunite I finally got to see the relationship I had been hoping for. They were doing so great. They seemed so happy and content. They were talking, training, and doing other couple things. So of course, since the main characters experience a little bit of happiness something had to ruin it. Though Mare should have expected that some silvers would want Cal to be back on the throne, she saw some on them die at Maven’s hand, I think she over reacted. I can’t blame Cal for still accepting his throne back, it’s all he has known, it was what he was raided to do, and I think that this experience has changed him and would have changed to way he will rule his kingdom. I feel like mare did not give herself enough time to react to Cal getting his title back and she made a rash decision to leave him. While Cals grandmother and Evangeline’s father agreed to a marriage they could have figured out a way around that and Cal and Mare could have been together.
All in all, I loved this book. I devoured it! As long as you can get through the second book this book will not disappoint. Do not make the same mistake as me and stop before this book! Happy Reading!!

This is definitely a movie that I will recommend to people. It is a really dramatic movie, but at the same time, it was more than that. I feel like I was able to learn something new about myself after I started watching this movie. I know that it can have a different effect depending on who is watching it, but I just felt so happy with it. I really hope that I can do something with this motivation that I have right now.
