What an amazing sequel. Gemina by Amie Kaufman. We got to see another amazing story play out and get to fall in love with more amazing characters. I especially loved Hanna’s diary entries in the book. The artwork just amazing.
So not going to lie, at first, I was a bit skeptical because I usually do not like when an author throws whole new characters at me after I have become attached to the first ones, but I was pleasantly surprised to have liked these new characters and their story line. The story line drew me in right away. And can I just say that the amount of girl power in this trilogy is literally amazing. Like all the girls can kick butt and save the universe from evil.
I love the sarcasm and humor that this book had to offer, like I lived for Hanna’s and Nik’s conversations. I really oved how they eventually found each other because I knew right from the start that Hanna’s actual boyfriend was not like able and then it turned out that her was a spy! The friendly banter between Ella and Nik were great too, I love a little family teasing!
So, this book had all types of obstacles; a team set out to kill everyone on board, some evil alien parasites, and the universe is literally falling apart. But Hanna Donnelly handle most of these things with grace and she did most of it in a designer jumpsuit!
I basically had to stop reading the book when Nik dies because I was so heartbroken, and I could not believe that he actually died. Honestly when the whole “there are two universes and our Nik is in the other one” I literally jumped for joy and happy cried. I was not expecting him to be brought back to life. And I was sure the Ella had bit the dust but I’m proud my little pauchk was a survivor.
My favorite part of the book was Hanna’s diary entries and how the blood continued to spread as the book went on. I thought Hanna would be the one whose blood it belonged too, but it was Nik’s blood, so why we are reading these files he is slowly bleeding out. I also really loved Hann’s sassy commentary about her life and the rules her dad wanted her to follow.
What really bothers me is that these files are being read to a judge and the person responsible for the files are still nothing is getting done. It’s sad that the adults do not believe what these kids went through. They basically saved the universe from not existing anymore and they have been though stuff other people could not even imagine and they are being pushed aside for grown up politics!
Overall, I loved this book, I love this series, and I can’t wait to finish the third book! So, what do you believe?
