All Things Books! |
![]() This week I read Frat Girl by Kiley Roache. I really loved this book! I devoured it in under a day and with having a million other things to do for school. I highly recommend that everyone, but especially girls in college read this book. It brought up some serious, relevant issues in today’s society and relevant to me. Firstly, I love that Cassie is my age, she’s in college, she is a feminist, and she is involved in Greek life. I can relate to all these aspects to Cassie’s life. I normally do not read anything but fantasy or paranormal books, but this book just called to me. Also, when she stated that she thought that she thinks she joined a cult, my first thought was like basically. This book has the right amount of romance, feel good moments, funny moments, and things that could happen to all of us. I really loved all the issues that were brought up throughout the book; like second wave feminism vs. third wave feminism (think femi-nazi vs. intersectionality equality), the different views that states have on sex education (abstinence only vs. practicing safe sex), and the true meaning of brotherhood/sisterhood (trust me Greeks are way more than partying). But I thought it was surprising that the fraternity was not in trouble for hazing when Cassie’s articles did come out because technically no one is supposed to get hazed. I was blown away at the character development and Cassie’s outlook on Greek life. I know that it has a bad rap, but it can be amazing experience and I loved how she first looked at it as a bad, toxic thing, but then she realizes that it is like have a home and family. Even her outlook on sororities changed when those girls in the bathroom talked to her. I am really jealous that Cassie gets to live h=in her Greek house, I wish that my campus let us live in the house. When you are that close to people you form lasting relationships and you can see how all the guys and Cassie slowly become friends and they have fun together. When I first saw the description of this book I was immediately reminded of the movie “She’s the Man,” because both girls go undercover to get in with the boys. And I was overjoyed that Cassie would not pretend to be a boy because you get to see how they accept Cassie into their brotherhood. Everyone should read this book, I have recommended this book to all of my friends (and that was before I even finished the book). I think that this book should be read by everyone in my generation because this book could have ideas that we need to here and stories we need to hear.
