An Ember in the Ashes

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahiris an amazing book. I cannot tell you enough praises for this book. I’m actually sad that I did not discover this book sooner. This book was a definite cover buy though, the new updated covers are beautiful, they are simple, but beautiful and they show you the characters. I looked up the first cover and I would have never picked up the book because the cover was not interesting. Once I started this book, I could not put it down and that is because it is finals season and I should have been studying (its fine, I’ll pass.)
I just adore Laia. She is not your average heroine and that’s why I like her. She runs away when her only remaining family member is in danger and she is on the run till she can find someone that will help her. She constantly talks about how scared she is when she is in these dangerous situations. and as the story goes on she becomes able to use her fear to push through and accomplish her tasks.
I loved getting to see Laia and Elias’s point of view, but I did not like when we saw other characters point of view. I felt it took away from the story and was not necessary.
I really liked to love story between Laia and Elias. I really didn’t like the rebel group, I knew they were shady and not to be trusted from the very beginning.
Everyone should try to read this book; the beginning might be a little slow but the story picks up and will be hard to put down. I just loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one!
