All Things Books! |
Well 2020 has been a wild year but some good things did come out of it in terms of movies, books, and tv shows. Some of the things on my list below did not come out in 2020 but I found brought me joy to experience again.
First up is Books. Now as a write this I am on track to meet my goodreads goal I definitely could have read more this year, but its okay to feel like this because we were in a middle of a global pandemic and sometimes I just did not feel like doing anything or just reading fan fiction, which unfortunately does not count towards my goodreads goal. When I think about all the books I read this year I loved all of them differently but none where as memorable as the ones I talk about below! -House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J Mass I was definitely on the fence about reading this book, I didn’t know how it would compare to Sarah’s other series which I love, it took me seeing this book all over Booktok to finally bite the bullet and read this book. Let me tell you if you have not read this book I highly recommend it! It was really the first adult rated book I read and got to go to that section in Barnes and Noble to buy this book. This was actually what let me venture out of the house a few months into quarantine because shipping fees are ridiculous to my town. I devoured this book. I stayed up all night to finish this book. I did not want this book to end. I don't want to give any spoilers in case you want to read this book but I promise you you will not regret it! -Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles My guilty pleasure is reading mafia themed books. I read all these books on Kindle unlimited on my phone app. There are 6 books in this series plus a spin off series (which I'll talk about below) This series revolves around 3 sisters and their husbands who happen to be involved in the New York Mafia and lots of drama ensues throughout the series. 10/10 recommend it if you are into this kind of thing! -The Camorra Chronicles This is a spin off series of the Born in Blood series and is about a different crime family in Las Vegas. The connection is that the main character is the brother of the girls in the series above and are related and again the main characters in the books are trying to survive and they eventually find love! The thing about these books is that each book focuses on a different brother, which I normally do not like, but I love how their stories are told! Next up is tv shows. I really watched a lot of shows this year. And I had a lot of favorites, some new shows and some oldies but goodies! -Emily in Paris (Netflix original) I watched this show on a whim and fell completely in love with it! It was fast paced, made me laugh and of course had some romance. The perfect triangle of things I love in a tv show! The show is about Emily who moves to Paris to help a company really move into the era of social media and rebrand their company. I also thought this was a nice escape in 2020 when I couldn’t leave my house and all I wanted to do was travel! -Outlander (Watched on Netflix) The 1st season is so good! I loved this show. Currently the second season is on my queue because I felt it got monotone and could not hold my attention for a few episodes in the 2nd season. But the 1st season is pure perfection! The storyline and the characters were so good and I usually don’t like historical shows but this one was great! I also put the books on my TBR pile! -Winx Club This show was and is one of my comfort shows. I always watch this show when I feel overwhelmed and want to be easy going! Though I definitely recommend the Rai English version if you want to want this show because the regular US version is a little watered down in my opinion. Also a little off topic, but something I will touch on in my 2021 post is that they are making a live action version of this show and I low key feel like I manifested it because Winx Club is all I talked about to my friends and the beginning of quarantine lol. -Miraculous I slept on this show for the longest time! My best friend finally convinced all of our friends to watch it, so over the Netflix party extension, during quarantine we watched this series. Also not going to lie, I definitely stayed up a few nights watching ahead and finishing the show because there were a few days that we all could not get on to watch. It was just so cute and light and such a good show. The new season is supposed to come out later this year or next year no I am so excited! -Nancy Drew This was one of the last shows I watched in 2020. I did start this show in February but then I just lost track of it and I decided I needed to finish it because it was a good show when I started it. I 10/10 recommend this show if you love crime shows, Nancy drew, and of course romance! Like all CW shows I can get a little dark and not going to lie, sometimes I just had to close my eyes because I new something was going to jump out. Last is movies! Movies definitely took a hit in 2020. When I tried to gather my list of movies I loved in 2020 it was really hard to think of any. So here is to hoping 2021 is a better year for movies! -Mulan (live action) Mulan was the one movie that I watched that I remember. Though I did wait for the movie to be free on Disney+ before watching it. Now I did not have high hopes for this movie since they did take out the songs, Mushu, and all of the romance. But I was genuinely surprised and I loved this movie. It was very empowering and it’s made me want to be a better person and not let other people hold me back! A full review is coming but this was definitely a great movie in 2020!
